The name Elijah is the Hebrew ‘Eliyahu (אֵלִיָּהוּ),’ meaning “My God is the LORD,” and in Greek he is called ‘Elias (Ἠλίας).’ He was from Tishbe in Gilead around the ninth century B.C., a prophet raised up in Israel. His ministry had a very deep influence not only on his own age but even into the New Testament era.
