As we have read in this passage, the king, trying to seize his own subject’s vineyard to make it a vegetable field, failed to get his way, and so killed that subject and took it in the end. And the word is that right there the gospel of God is contained. Give the vineyard, that it may become a vegetable garden. Those who do not farm may not know it well, but to one who farms this is a serious matter. The vineyard was close to the royal palace, and he meant to buy it in and turn it into a field. He meant to plant things like lettuce and spinach.
