This passage is about something that happened in the days of King Ahab of northern Israel. Because of this affair, Queen Jezebel was killed in the end, and dogs tore at her corpse and dogs licked her blood. Northern Israel was the nation Jeroboam had founded. Jeroboam was a man who stood against God. God entrusted the nation to him for a while, but he did not turn back and kept leading that nation in order to protect his own authority. After Jeroboam died his son became king, and after several kings Ahab became king. Ahab seems to have been a man who looked very weak-willed.
